Arts & Crafts
Music Choir Nepean
Songsters
This lively group gets together in the Heritage room at the Centre on
Thursdays at 9 a.m. to sing and have a good time. They also entertain in
seniors residences, nursing homes and elsewhere. New members are welcome. A
small membership fee applies.
Tap Dancing - 55+
If you have already learned the basics of Tap dancing, try Level 2 Tap for more
fun and fitness! Pre-requisiteknowledge of basics. Classes at Level 2 are
offered every Tuesday at 1:00 p.m. in Hall F during the Fall/Winter/Spring

Line Dancing
A variety of line dances are taught every Monday at 11:00 a.m. during the
Fall/Winter/Spring seasons. No experience necessary. For more information

Creative Crafts
Thursday mornings from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., the Meeting Room at the Centre
is a buzz of chatter and activity. The ladies of the Craft Club get together to
knit, crochet, sew or quilt various projects. Many of our finished crafts are
on display and are for sale in the showcase in the Heritage Room.
During the past year, the sales from these crafts have brought in over $2,100.
This money was turned over to the Management Board for use in helping to
finance their many projects for the betterment of all our seniors. The crafters
also finish unfinished objects, knit hundreds of hats, scarves, mitts and
sweaters for charity and are now also involved in tying and binding quilts for
Victoria's Quilts.
If you have a few hours to spare, please join us for friendship, coffee and to
lend a helping hand. New ideas are always welcome! There is no fee to
participate, but you must be a Centre member.
Card/Board Games
Note: To take part in these activities, you must purchase a membership
to the Nepean Seniors Recreation Centre, which is only $24 for a calendar year.
After that, you just pay a nominal drop-in fee each time you participate in the
activity. For more information about any of these games, please call the

Contract Bridge
This friendly group of retired adults, gather for contract bridge on
Wednesdays at 1:00p.m. in the Heritage Room at the Sportsplex. The season
runs from September to May, during which time scores are recorded. Play
re-commences during the summer months on a drop-in basis.
Cribbage
Lets play Cribbage! The season runs from September to May. During the
summer months, Cribbage is still played on a drop-in basis. Games are every
Tuesday and Thursday at 1:00 p.m. in the Heritage room.
Duplicate Bridge
Players meet in various locations at the Sportsplex. As usual in Duplicate
bridge, each table plays the same, predetermined hand and results are decided
by best scores of the various pairs. Games are every Wednesday 7:00 p.m.
Thursday & Friday 1:00 p.m. Sunday 12:30 p.m.
Euchre
Join this friendly group at the Nepean Seniors Recreation Centre for a round of
four or six-hand Euchre. This group meets year round on Tuesdays at 1:00
p.m.
Fun Bridge
A group of non-competitive adults gather to play bridge. Bring your own partner
or develop a partnership after you arrive. A good way for beginners to perfect
the lessons learned at basic bridge classes. Runs year round on
Fridays at 1:00 p.m.
500 Card Game
Eager players come out to play this fun game. All newcomers are welcome. Play
takes place in the Heritage room on Thursdays at 1 p.m.

Heart Study
Chair-ercise
A chair-assisted program designed to improve muscle tone, flexibility and
endurance. The program is ideal for those with arthritis, osteoporosis or just
starting to exercise. When combined with a walking program, it is an excellent
alternative to low-impact aerobics. Why not try it and start on the road to a
healthier lifestyle! Wednesdays and Fridays, 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. throughout
the year. Registration fees apply.
Tai Chi
It is believed that the practice of Tai Chi develops both body and mind in
harmony to produce a feeling of wellbeing. Movements are gentle, rhythmic and
relaxing. Wear loose, comfortable clothing (sweatsuits are fine) and soft-soled
shoes. Sessions are held in the Heritage Room on Tuesdays during the
Fall/Winter/Spring sessions. Registration fees apply.
Level 1 - 11:00 a.m.
Level 2 - 10:00 a.m.
Level 3 - 9:00 a.m.
You are welcome to come and watch a class to see what it is all about before
joining.
Snowshoeing and Cross Country Skiing
Keep active in the winter months. We use the trails behind the Sportsplex on
Mondays at 10:30 am and Fridays at 1 pm during the Winter session. There
is no charge for this activity, but you must be a member of the Nepean Seniors
Recreation Centre. If you are interested, please call the Seniors Centre at

Walking Club
Walking is a wonderful form of exercise. This club meets every Monday,
Tuesday and Thursday morning at 9:30 a.m. at the Seniors Centre, in the
Spring/Summer/Fall seasons. Everyone walks at their own pace while enjoying
the beautiful trails behind the Nepean Sportsplex. There is no charge for this
club, but you must be a member of the Nepean Seniors Recreation Centre. For

Nordic Walking
Low-impact, high-energy ultimate workout that enhances your walking with 20-40%
more caloric expenditure. Excellent for cardio, posture and upper body strength
because of the use of Nordic poles. Must be able to walk for 45 minutes. Poles
provided. Friday mornings at 10 a.m. at the Seniors Centre, in the
Spring/Summer/Fall seasons.. Registration fees apply. For more information,

Cycling Club
This club is geared towards those active seniors who havent been cycling
in awhile or are looking for a social group in which to cycle with once a week.
The rides take place on the many cycling paths that the City of Ottawa has to
offer on Tuesdays at 9:00 a.m. during the Spring/Summer/Fall seasons.
There is no charge for this club, but you must be a member of the Nepean
Seniors Recreation Centre. For more information, please call the Seniors Centre

Foot Care Clinics
We offer, in partnership with Nepean Support Services, Foot Care Clinics the
first and last Wednesday of each month. For more information or to book

Special Events
Standing Committee on Fundraising
The Fundraising Committee puts on a number of events that help raise money for
the Volunteer Management Board, which in turn helps out the Centre. Below is a
description of some of the activities/events they are involved in regularly.
They also have been involved with dances, variety shows and Murder Mystery
dinners.
Attendance Draw
The draw occurs every two weeks on Friday (except when there is a
statutory holiday). There is a box in the Heritage room in the Seniors Centre.
All you have to do is put in your Loonie during the two-week period and
register your name in the book on top of the attendance draw box, then hope
your name is drawn. You cant win if you dont play! If no one wins
within 10 draws, on that 10th draw we will continue to draw numbers until a
winner has been established. The winner shares half of the money that is in the
box.
Military Whist
One Friday a month from September until June, the Centre holds a Military
Whist tournament, 7 10 p.m. You can buy a ticket as an individual or
as a team of four players. Refreshments are served plus you have a chance to
win cash prizes, all for the low ticket price of $6.00! For dates of upcoming
Whists, check the Calendar of Events or call the Seniors Centre at 613-580-2828
ext 2.
Rideau Carleton Raceway Slots Trips
Three times a year, in March, June and October, the Fundraising
Committee organizes a trip to the Slots. Tickets are $12.00 for members and
$15.00 for non-members. For that price you get bus transportation from the
Centre and return, as well as $15.00 in vouchers. To top it all off, the
all-you-can-eat buffet meal is only $9.99! The bus picks up at the Centre at
4:00 p.m. and leaves from the Slots at 8:30 p.m. The next trip is Tuesday,

Winter Blahs Bash
Come in out of the cold for a fun day with friends at the Winter Blahs
Bash every February. Enjoy a variety of activites, lunch, dessert and door
prizes.
Canada Day Barbecue
Happy Canada Day! Come celebrate with friends, enjoy great food and
entertainment. Wear your best red & white outfit!
Christmas Dinner
Celebrate the season with your friends from the Seniors Centre, and enjoy
a wonderful evening featuring a 3-course meal, drinks, entertainment and door
prizes.
Sports

Carpet Bowling
Join us on the Concourse in the Nepean Sportsplex for a game of Carpet Bowling.
The season runs from late September to the end of April on Tuesdays and
Thursdays at 1:00 p.m.
Curling
Pay as you play! The session starts at the end of October and runs to the
end of March. Tuesdays & Thursdays starting at 9:00 a.m.
Five-Pin Bowling
Bowlers meet every Monday starting in mid-September at the Merivale Bowling
Lanes. Teams are made up on arrival. Play starts at 1:00 p.m.
Floor Shuffleboard
Players interested in mixed play meet regularly the year round on
Mondays & Wednesdays at 1:00 pm at the Nepean Sportsplex Concourse.
Novice players are welcome and will be given basic instruction of the game if
required at no extra charge.
Bocce
Come on out on Tuesday evenings at 6:30 p.m. and enjoy a few games of
Bocce in the great outdoors. Never played? Its similar to lawn bowling,
but you can play it on any patch of grass. Why not give it a try? The season
runs from May until the end of September. |
